Neutron combat pants - part 1: Knee protectors

You may have realised that our combat pants (called Neutron pants) have inner knee protectors, but have you ever thought about the design and application?

We will explain and show how the knee protectors are supposed to be placed in their sockets and what adjustments you should make before you wear these combat trousers.

Combat pants with knee protectors

At first we have to clarify: Since these accessories consist of two layers, the knee protectors have an outer and an inner side.

The inner side is made of a breathable "airnet" mesh layer which provides excellent breathability and drying properties besides making the knee pads more comfortable even when they are tightened to your knees.

The outer side is the main material, which is a polyethilene foam with medium density to provide flexibility and comfort, while absorbing most of the impacts that can cause pain on most of the terrains.

How to place these knee protectors in their sockets then?

  • Mesh layer facing your knees,

  • The top part with wider end facing upwards, so the narrower part is supposed to be the bottom then.

  • Unfasten the velcro closure opening of the knee protector socket,

  • Place the knee pad into the socket correctly,

  • Close the opening by fastening the velcro closure,

  • Check if the knee pad is placed appropriately and if the opening is closed properly!

Inner knee protector

Now the knee protectors are inside as intended!

Let's see further adjustments that are supposed to be made to increase mobility and to achieve even better comfort!

Adjustable knee height

  • Turn the pants inside out!

  • You will find webbing loops on the bottom of the utility pockets and on the top of the knee protector sockets,

  • You have received a pair of shock cords in the appropriate length with your Neutron pants. Yes, you have! Of course we send our combat pants with knee pads and adjustment cords. It is obvious. For us.

  • Lace the shock cord into both webbing loops on the same leg of the pants,

  • Make a single loop with both ends of the cord,

  • Tighten the loop and adjust the length of the remainder part,

  • NOTE: The tighter you set the loop the more retraction force you will achieve with the elastic cords,

  • Set the loop to the appropriate size to match your preference!

PRO TIP: the shorter you are, the tighter settings will match your needs. Our tests showed that this adjustment becomes less important above a particular height of the wearer.

Now the elastic cords do their job. As you pull the leg of the pants vertically, you will feel a retraction force that is going to be responsible for the proper knee height adjustment.

As you turned the pants out, you may have realised that the elastic cords are pulling the knee protector sockets upwards. This is their job, well done!

One more step remained: Adjust the alignment of the knee pads!

  • Grab the knee strap on the outer side of the leg,

  • Tighten the strap as much as you like. As you set the straps tighter, the knee protectors will face more outwards. Mind the anatomy of your knees, everyone needs different settings!

  • Mind the velcro closure to be fastened properly! On the other hand don't forget that some bloodstream is needed for your legs to operate well! ;)
